IESE Business School
IESE Business School is the graduate business school of the University of Navarra. IESE came into prominence in 1964 by launching the first two-year MBA program in Europe under the guidance of the Harvard Business School. The Harvard-IESE Joint Advisory Committee was established in 1963 and continues to meet annually concerning matters of mutual interest. In 2007, IESE began offering academic programs in the United States with the opening of the Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME) in New York City. With the opening of its New York Center building in midtown Manhattan in April 2010, IESE became the first European business school to establish permanent operations in the U.S.
IESE is consistently ranked among the leading business schools in the world. In 2015 and 2016 Its Executive Education Programs have been ranked first globally by Financial Times. And IESE MBA Program was ranked 3rd in Europe in The Economist MBA Ranking 2015, and 1st in Europe and 5th globally in The Economist MBA Rankings 2013 and 2014.
In 2012, The Economist ranked IESE's MBA program as the top two-year MBA in Europe and ninth in the world. In 2009, the same program was ranked as the top two-year MBA program in the world. IESE had also previously ranked as the number one business school in the world based on the study of the Economist Intelligence Unit of 2005 and 2006. The criteria on which The Economist bases its ranking are (a) opening of new career opportunities (35%), (b) personal development/educational experience (35%), (c) increase in salary (20%), and (d) potential to network (10%).
In 2013, Financial Times ranked IESE's MBA program as seventh in the world. In 2011, Financial Times ranked IESE's Open Programs as first in the world. It also classified IESE's Executive Education programs as second in Europe and third in the world. IESE was ranked first among non-U.S two-year MBA programs according to Forbes magazine in 2007.
In the 2010 QS Global 200 Business Schools Report the school was ranked 4th in Europe.
IESE Business School's Executive Committee is responsible for the long-term strategic development of the school, faculty hiring, investments and program portfolio, as well as the School's operations. The Dean of the School presides over the Executive Committee and reports to the president of the University of Navarra.
The School's International Advisory Board and the Executive Committee of the IESE Alumni Association provide strategic orientation on IESE's initiatives and governance, as well as offering their advice on educational programs, expansion, investment and corporate involvement.
The US Advisory Council provides the School with support for the long-term development of activities in the United States, particularly the New York center, and how these activities can be of benefit to IESE in other parts of the world.
IESE and Harvard Business School have had a close relationship for almost fifty years. In 1963, Harvard Business School approved the formation of the Harvard-IESE Committee, a committee established to offer IESE ongoing guidance as it continued to develop its programs and evolve as a business school. The Harvard-IESE Committee helped guide the launch of IESE's full-time MBA Program in 1964, the first of its kind in Europe. The committee has met annually ever since in either the U.S. or Europe. The Harvard-IESE Committee has also played a key role in developing IESE-Harvard joint international executive education programs, first launched in 1994.

Associated business schools
In the same way that IESE was guided by Harvard Business School when it was first established, IESE has helped establish 15 other high-quality business schools, mainly in developing regions of the world.
IESE's global reach goes well beyond the school's campuses and facilities in Barcelona, Madrid, Munich, New York and São Paulo. The school's links to associated business schools and those with which it has exchange agreements and partnerships give students a heightened sense of partaking in a global community. Together with its global vision and the diverse nationalities of students and program participants, the school's international academic alliances bring the world to the IESE classroom and the IESE experience.
For many years, IESE has been actively dedicated to helping foster management development in Africa. In collaboration with the local academic community and businesses, IESE has established three new Business schools in Africa – Lagos Business School (Pan-African University in Nigeria; Strathmore Business School (Strathmore University in Kenya) and MDE Business School, in Ivory Coast.
Since 1992 IESE has collaborated in a variety of ways with Lagos Business School such as an advisory board made up of IESE professors and the opportunity for students to attend IESE's PhD program in Barcelona. In 2005, IESE signed an agreement with Strathmore University in Nairobi to establish a business school. Moreover, IESE's International Faculty Program (IFDP), designed for faculty members of business schools worldwide, sees a growing number of professors from African business schools each year.
IESE Executive Education offers a wide portfolio of open and customized executive programs delivered in Barcelona, Madrid, New York and many other global locations. Consistently ranked among the best in the world by The Financial Times, The Economist and others, these programs are attended by more than 4,000 senior executives every year. The classes are designed and taught by full-time faculty and feature intensive use of the case method. IESE Executive Education programs reflect the IESE mission of developing competent and responsible leaders who want to have a positive and lasting impact on people, companies and society.

IESE is also involved in joint-venture executive education, offering open-enrollment programs in partnership with business schools and companies in the U.S. and elsewhere since 1994. The school's in-company programs have attracted such clients as Bertelsmann, British Telecom, Boeing, Fortis, Henkel, Oracle Corporation, Sun Microsystems and Volkswagen in recent months.
International Advisory Board
Created in 1989, IESE√ïs International Advisory Board (IAB) was established in order to help IESE assess the evolving socioeconomic context in which businesses functions and the latest needs, tendencies and advancements in the field of management and leadership education. The IAB is composed of prominent business and civic leaders from Europe, the United Kingdom, the Americas and Asia who are recognized for their contributions to the development of management and business. The IAB is appointed by the dean and meets periodically to review global developments in humanistic and management issues and discuss challenges and opportunities.
Notable IAB members include Michel Camdessus of the Banque de France, Victor K. Fung of the Li & Fung Group, N.R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies, Rafael del Pino of Ferrovial, Franck Riboud of Groupe Danone, Martin Sorrell of WPP Group and Peter Sutherland of BP.
Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME)
IESE's New York Center is home to the Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME). With IME's research support, IESE delivers executive education programs for companies and individuals from leading firms in the industry like Disney, Google, Time Warner, Viacom, Discovery and others. IME and IESE are program partners in the Advanced Management Program (AMP) in Media and Entertainment or the "Media AMP." The Media AMP is an intensive business education program for seasoned, high-potential executives from media and entertainment companies all over the world. The program is a first of its kind in the industry and is jointly offered with industry thought leader The Paley Center for Media.
Other media and entertainment programs offered at the IESE New York Center include Advanced Digital Media Strategies and Branding in Media and Entertainment. Custom programs are also developed for companies to address their specific business and executive training needs.
Additionally, IME maintains a media and entertainment business blog that provides free research reports and commentary regarding industry news and trends.
IESE International Case Competition
The IESE International Case Competition is an annual business case competition run by IESE for MBA students from across the world. The competition has been held since 1995, and is sponsored by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.
The IESE Africa Initiative
Internationalization has been one of the key characteristics of IESE since its very founding in 1958. IESE's participants, research, and faculty have always had strong international components and over the years, IESE itself has developed internationally expanding to new locations in Brazil, Germany and the United States amongst others.
In addition to its own "organic" development, IESE over the years has contributed to the creation and development of up to 18 business schools throughout the world. Initially, such associated business schools were mostly created in Latin American due to obvious reason of cultures and language.
In 1992 IESE was instrumental in the launch and subsequent development of the Lagos Business School in Nigeria. Then, at the turn of the century, IESE started cooperating with the Nile University, Cairo, Egypt.
In 2005, our school help launch the Strathmore Business School within the preexisting, prestigious Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2008, AESE Business School (Lisbon, Portugal) together with FACIDE (an Angolan association of executives) launched the Angola School of Management (ASM). IESE was also invited to participate in this effort which was largely driven from Lisbon.
Most recently, in 2009, after offering some short seminars to test the waters, IESE helped IHE-Afrique to launch MDE Business School in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. It was then decided to launch a long executive education program and eventually the first Advanced Management Program (AMP) started in February 2011.
Due the increasing activity of IESE Faculty in these kinds of projects, the Dean and the board of directors of IESE decided to create The IESE Africa Initiative in September 2009 in order to enhance the commitment of the school to the creation of new African business schools and the education of the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.
